Hey, I’m Heather.

You bring the words, I’ll bring my pen, let’s make some magic!

About me…

I've had a passion for reading since I was a little kid. If I could get my hands on a book, I'd have my nose stuck in it until the last page. It was a never-ending adventure in my mind.

As luck would have it, my love for reading only grew with time. During that time I have experienced different genres of stories and time periods. I found out what I crave from a story to grab hold of me and not let go.

I've worked in different fields, all seem to have the same thing in common, communication. For well over a decade I've honed my skills in verbal and written communication, supporting clients and customers around the world and in a number capacities. I have an eye for detail when it comes to writing, and I use that skill daily.

When I'm not working or reading, I enjoy planting things in my garden. Pay close attention that I didn't say growing things, HA, because sometimes it doesn't work out. Then I plant something else. Or you can find me in the kitchen baking sourdough bread, really anything that goes in the oven. No, I don't cook, I leave that to the professionals.

What Authors are Saying

"I feel lucky every day to have come across Heather in my publishing journey. I can't recommend her services enough if you're an author, especially a new author; she is such an author advocate. She has beta-read, ARC read, and professionally edited my whole catalog of books. It is a joyful process every time. Her notes and comments are thorough and thoughtful, and she includes you in every step of the process, never leaving you in the dark. She has an eye for detail, perfect for your editing needs, and is passionate about keeping your story true to your vision. She is heavily involved in the book community and has tons of contacts and knowledge of reader marketing trends and demands. I can't recommend her enough!"

Clare Archer, The Divine Oblivion

“As an indie author, we have so many jobs from writing, editing, promoting, marketing, outreach, and a thousand other things. And most of us still have to work full-time during all of this. But after I've been collaborating with Heather, I feel like I have such a better handle on my workload. I no longer feel alone in the pursuit of my passion."

Shelby Manuel, The Factions of Red River Series

“I am SO happy with the proofreading that Heather provided me. She went above and beyond to make my story shine. She not only found the small errors that were missed but pointed out bigger issues that were not caught. I especially appreciate the time she took to find the market hooks, making my life so much easier when planning my advertising. I’ll definitely be using Heather’s services again!"

G.M. Fairy, Spellbound Seduction

"Heather brings the personability to editing that makes it a collaborate effort, and I feel so much better knowing she’s looked over the book! Highly recommend!"

Charlotte Mallory, The Secrets of Jane

“Heather is one of those magical creatures who is able to take something I’ve written, and polishes it up with incredible love and care! She really understands not only the characters, but the world you’re trying to create as an Author, which is so wonderful to have in the editing and proofreading process. Heather is an absolute gem when it comes to not only giving thoughtful suggestions, feedback, but also dropping in with love notes for the story and characters that I absolutely adore receiving. If you want an editor who will not only give your story the ultimate caring eye while also zuzhing it up perfectly, and who is also SO understanding of working with your creative flow as a writer, look no further. Heather is a star and I am so grateful to have her on my support team."

Elliott Rose, Chasing the Wild

“Heather is incredibly thorough as a proofreader and went above and beyond what I expected. I really enjoyed getting to work with someone who is so clearly passionate about what she does as well as the stories she's working with. I super appreciated the turn around time and flexibility. Can't wait to work on future projects together."

Frankie Diane Mallis, Son of the Drowned Empire

FAQ

  • You will find a wide range of costs when it comes to editing and proofreading. I work with both aspiring authors and published indie authors. Here is a link to the 'industry standard' for rates: https://www.the-efa.org/rates/.

With that being said, I do try to make my rates incredibly affordable and am well below the industry standard. For services such as formatting, and market pulls, rates will vary based on what you want, and I am happy to speak with you and give you a custom quote.

  • There is no rule that says you cannot self-edit. You should be self-editing each step of the way. At the end of the day, this is YOUR story, YOUR words, YOU are the artist. No one can take that away from you. Keep in mind that because this is your creation, it can be hard to see what's missing or right in front of you. A fresh pair of eyes for a story assessment will/should only enhance your vision. I would highly recommend a deep proof if you are opting out of copy edits. Your editor should be here to help you, be in your corner wanting the very best for you and your story.
